You Knowledge

Some of the great theories on knowledge management and organizational learning fail in one basic aspect: people’s implication, knowledge adquisition and sharing behaviour.

For the 21st centry worker, several opportunities and challenges have to come. Some of them imply significant mind changes. Are we ready?

Some of the paradigms have changed are:

  • From a safe job to a safe employability

  • The “Senior Gap”. The continuous learning curve determines a great difference from the average to the best developed professionals, based on an actitud and discipline of continuous learning

  • Freelance patterns and collaborations peer to peer for success

  • Teach and walk the talk

Collaboration models

Most efforts done in the past trying to classify information available in networks, create collaborative working models or identify a productive way to get best brains in play together, had got results far away from the expectations generated. Nowadays, we can still see paradigms in the way some organizations see innovation activities as an isolated department away from day to day reality, software development firms going fast for reinventing the wheel or huge projects for creating global directories which born obsolete from the day of its conception.

Globalization and socialization are terms most authors and media use to refer to something that has become a “de facto” standard. Something new that becomes quickly adopted by individuals because of its good features. In the 21st century, in the knowledge economy as Peter Drucker used to talk, collaboration between individuals and groups seems to be critical to leverage the results in every framework. Thus some artists and researchers seem to have been trying their best.

Though Internet has facilitated a natural flourishing of spontaneous, radically new and in some cases revolutionary models like the Open Source Community, the Wikis and the Crowdsourcing. Why are they so brilliant/ different from existing practices? Which factors have driven these happen? What is more. Is there any way to replicate or adapt them to business? Are they all profitable or do also have cons? What impact and challenges will bring to the existing business models and individuals?
